Volunteers
The museum is mostly run by volunteers - the curator is the only professional member of staff. We always need new people to come and help. Some people bring their own skills, some just a willingness to help. You do not need to have any special knowledge or skills, you will always be partnered with a more experienced volunteer until you are more confident.
We need people to help with:
- Stewarding
- To welcome the public and man the front desk and shop. This is a very variable job - sometimes it is busy, sometimes it is quiet.
- Stewards are essential for keeping the museum open.
- Outreach visits
- The curator needs suitable people to help with this activity.
- Exhibitions
- Helping with researching and mounting exhibitions.
- Press and publicity
- The museum badly needs one or more people to fulfil these roles.
- And lots of other jobs!
We are a friendly bunch of people from all walks of life who enjoy bringing our local past to the present generation; you don't have to be an academic person to join in. If you think you might like to help, contact the museum for further details.
